Peabody Energy - Leaders in Education Award Recipient
Congratulations Mrs. Kuchnicki- Lovejoy Speech Therapist
A speech teacher in the Alton School District was rendered speechless on Tuesday morning when she was surprised with one of the top regional honors for education.
Angela Kuchnicki, a teacher at Lovejoy Elementary was bestowed with the Peabody Energy ‘Leaders in Education’ Award during a surprise classroom ceremony n Tuesday morning. Peabody Energy representatives, students, staff and administrators were all on hand for the celebration. In addition to the award, Kuchnicki received a basket of edibles and a $1,000 check to use as she chooses.
Kuchnicki beamed as she thanked Peabody and her colleagues. “I am completely surprised and just cannot thank everyone enough for this honor.” Students joined the presentation by sharing what they like most about their teacher ranging from kindness to just being special.
John Ducey, Lovejoy Principal, noted that Kuchnicki is very deserving of the recognition. “She is just amazing and really deserves this accolade. We feel very fortunate to have her at Lovejoy.”
Through Peabody Energy, the Leaders in Education initiative recognizes exceptional mentors who transform the lives of their students. Peabody has pledged $450,000 over three years to benefit the program. Each honoree will also be honored during an annual awards dinner in August. A panel of business, academic and civic leaders selects winners from many outstanding nominations. Marc Lambert, Director of Special Education, serves on the panel. The committee chooses winners without knowing the candidates’ names, schools or districts. Congratulations Angela!
